Premier MK II
The Scheu Premier MK II comes with a tonearm base for either a 9-inch or a 12-inch tonearm. The Premier MK II's turntable platter offers two height options: 50 mm and 80 mm.
The Premier is our best-selling standard drive worldwide and is available in several exclusive versions. It is designed as a mass-produced drive, distinguished by individual construction details and meticulous shaping.
The bearing, personally developed by Thomas Scheu, is an inverted (shaft rests on the turntable base, the bearing sleeve is inserted into the platter) precision platter bearing made of 100Cr6 ball bearing steel, with a sliding surface hardness of 62 HRC and a bearing tolerance range of h6/H6, which is also used in other Scheu turntables. The solid axle, bolted to the base plate, supports a ceramic ball on top. The resonance-free, heavy acrylic platter virtually hangs on the bearing, thereby stabilizing itself. The DC motor, housed in a solid housing, is located separately next to the turntable and quickly accelerates to the speed selected with the toggle switch (33 or 45 rpm). Fine adjustment is achieved via potentiometers, and power is supplied via a plug-in power supply.
The motor and platter are connected by a string, a fine, wafer-thin nylon thread. The advantage of these string drives lies in the small contact area, which creates a force coupling, thus minimizing uneven tensile forces and unnecessary friction. Between the base plate with its three height-adjustable threaded spikes and the tonearm base, which can be single- or double-winged depending on the model, is a cylindrical ring whose cavity is filled with resonance-reducing lead shot. Either a 9-inch or 12-inch tonearm can be mounted; the Premier MKIII even offers the option of mounting two tonearms of any length. Platter heights of 50 mm (weighing 4.5 kg) and 80 mm (weighing 7.5 kg) are also available.
The Scheu has absolutely solid prerequisites for all imaginable variations of tonearms and cartridges, providing an ideal working environment for them. It doesn't represent a limiting factor even at price ranges well above the purchase price of the turntable.

The sound
The Premier's sound, when combined with all tonearms on the world market, delivers calm, confident, and great spatial depth. Depending on the tonearm/cartridge combination, we hear distinctive timbres and profound bass. But even with our own tonearms, we can enjoy a seamless sound, clean and perfectly sorted, with elemental power.
