About us
What began over 20 years ago with Thomas Scheu's "passion for tinkering" has now become a company with customers and fans all over the world.
Thomas Scheu, a trained toolmaker and gifted musician, built his first record player in 1985. Besides his passion, his ability to think in a solution-oriented way, his expertise in materials science, and his talent for design and construction helped him to further develop his ideas and grow his company. A particular highlight of his career, which at that time was still a part-time endeavor, was receiving the “Golden Ear Award” in 2001.
In December 2004 – after his death – his wife Ulla Scheu took over the management of the company and thus its responsibility. She understands how to combine the Scheu analog tradition with modern business practices. She continuously builds on "his" ideas, but has shed the "insider tip" image and is investing in communication and expansion.
“It continues and there will be innovations; however, the origin lives on in its spirit,” said Ulla Scheu, describing her very personal company and life philosophy.
Scheu is a well-established name in the audiophile HiFi market – and is gaining more and more fans around the world.
Takeover 06/2025
The company has been under new management since June 2025. With great respect for the existing tradition, we continue what has proven successful while simultaneously setting new trends.
Our core principles – quality, reliability, and attention to detail – remain unchanged. Together with our customers and partners, we intend to continue successfully on our chosen path.
As part of the takeover, the company will also relocate to the Rhine-Main area.
Our products
Turntables
Turntables from SCHEU are synonymous from Berlin to Ushuaia with a most audiophile sound quality, tonal balance and, last but not least, outstanding durability. They are all belt-/string-driven heavyweight turntables and they all use an inverted bearing.
Production quality is of the utmost importance to us, and we work exclusively with suppliers from Germany. This means that our final products are `Made in Germany´ through and through – apart from the Rega arm on some models, which fortunately is being built to the same exacting standards.
Our turntables are carefully manufactured by hand and offer a suitable solution for everyone, no matter what your requirements, from the beginner´s turntable Cello to the very sophisticated reference-beater Das Laufwerk No.2.
Das Laufwerk No.2
The SCHEU turntable with the absolute name Das Laufwerk No.2 has recently become SCHEUs top-of-the range model. In terms of audible performance it even exceeds the company´s legendary previous top model and represents the beginning of a whole new phase for SCHEU.
Premier
The Premier is our most popular standard turntable which is available in a number of variants. It has been conceived as a heavyweight turntable distinguished by individual design details.
Diamond
Very pink, very classy and very self-conscious – that is Diamond, the feminist pop art icon in the realms of Higher Fidelity.
Cello
The SCHEU Cello is a beautifully designed and meticulously crafted turntable for all those who are out to rediscover the joys of analogue music.

Tonearms
SCHEU proudly offers three very unique models of unipivot bearing tonearms:
Tacco
The Scheu Tacco MK II is our much talked about top-of-the-range model with the conical wooden tonearm wand made of either thuja cedar or amboina pine. The Tacco tonearm has an unipivot bearing.
Cantus
The Cantus is a tonearm with an unipivot bearing where the arm is not actually a wand but is made up of a complex mechanical framework (think Eiffel, only horizontally).
Classic
The return of a classic. The predecessor of this arm sold hundreds and has almost achieved cult status. In swift response to very popular demand, a redesigned MK II version has now been released.
Accessories + DIY
Here you'll find not only the essential original Scheu components for realizing your own designs and dreams, but also current offers and special opportunities. From discontinued models at special prices to discounted parts and very special second-hand items for specialists, we offer you a wide selection of essential audiophile accessories and great special offers.
As always, ambitious DIYers can also purchase platters in various thicknesses, bearings, and motors (available as a kit for DIY installation or ready-to-use in a case), as well as various small parts. Of course, we are always available for recommendations and advice. Please send an email to manufaktur@scheu-analog.de .
