About us
How a `connoisseur´s tip´ came to conquer the analogue world.
What began 20 years ago with Thomas Scheu’s `passion for tinkering´ has grown into a highly regarded company with audiophile customers almost anywhere on this recently revinylized planet.
The trained toolmaker and talented musician Thomas Scheu built his first record player in 1985. Fueled by an overwhelming passion to build a turntable better than what could be bought anywhere, he was aided by his skills: solution-oriented thinking, a deep knowledge of materials science and his talent for design and construction both in developing his ideas and expanding his company.
One special highlight of what was still a hobbyist career at the time was the winning of the prestigious German `Golden Ear Award´ in 2001.
In December 2004 – after Thomas’ much too early death – his wife Ulla Scheu took over the responsibility for running the company. She fully comprehended how to meld the SCHEU tradition with the necessities of modern commerce. So based on her late husband’s ideas she started to unveil the secrets of SCHEU Analog to an ever growing world of vinyl aficionados, investing in advertising and expansion to bring the merits of HIS work to the wider public.
“We carry on and there will be further innovations but they will always have their roots in Thomas´ ideas,” says Ulla Scheu of her own personal view of the company and indeed giving an insight of her view of life as a whole.
SCHEU has come to achieve major status in the audiophile hi-fi market and running the company nowadays is a more than full-time job.

Our products
Turntables
Turntables from SCHEU are synonymous from Berlin to Ushuaia with a most audiophile sound quality, tonal balance and, last but not least, outstanding durability. They are all belt-/string-driven heavyweight turntables and they all use an inverted bearing.
Production quality is of the utmost importance to us, and we work exclusively with suppliers from Germany. This means that our final products are `Made in Germany´ through and through – apart from the Rega arm on some models, which fortunately is being built to the same exacting standards.
Our turntables are carefully manufactured by hand and offer a suitable solution for everyone, no matter what your requirements, from the beginner´s turntable Cello to the very sophisticated reference-beater Das Laufwerk No.2.
Das Laufwerk No.2
The SCHEU turntable with the absolute name Das Laufwerk No.2 has recently become SCHEUs top-of-the range model. In terms of audible performance it even exceeds the company´s legendary previous top model and represents the beginning of a whole new phase for SCHEU.
Premier
The Premier is our most popular standard turntable which is available in a number of variants. It has been conceived as a heavyweight turntable distinguished by individual design details.
Diamond
Very pink, very classy and very self-conscious – that is Diamond, the feminist pop art icon in the realms of Higher Fidelity.
Cello
The SCHEU Cello is a beautifully designed and meticulously crafted turntable for all those who are out to rediscover the joys of analogue music.
Tonearms
SCHEU proudly offers three very unique models of unipivot bearing tonearms:
Tacco
The Scheu Tacco MK II is our much talked about top-of-the-range model with the conical wooden tonearm wand made of either thuja cedar or amboina pine. The Tacco tonearm has an unipivot bearing.
Cantus
The Cantus is a tonearm with an unipivot bearing where the arm is not actually a wand but is made up of a complex mechanical framework (think Eiffel, only horizontally).
Classic
The return of a classic. The predecessor of this arm sold hundreds and has almost achieved cult status. In swift response to very popular demand, a redesigned MK II version has now been released.
